Intro
Kipalo is a relatively new camp situated in Mbulia Conservancy: 12000 acres dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and a project initiated by the local community with this tourism company. With great access to both Tsavo East and West National Parks and just 2.5 hours from Mombasa, it is a wonderful new addition to the safari circuit. Although the camp was built with a permanent view in mind, guests often remark on the genuine 'safari' feel and atmosphere of the lodge, with its tented rooms and furniture incorporated into the natural features of the rock.
Highlights
Walking in Mbulia Conservancy. After the rainy season the bush is lush and green - so the best way to see wildlife and really experience the African bush, is to hop down out of the 4x4's and track wildlife and birds on foot with your local guides who know the area like the back of their hand! And who love to share their traditional knowledge of the world around them...
Need To Know
Connect to Kipalo with Mombasa Air to the Maasai Mara and the Kenyan Coast... as well as with Safarilink from Nairobi! Nearest airstrip is Kilaguni (2.5 hours) or Manyani (25 minutes) but only with use of a chartered flight.
Just a 2.5 hour drive to Mombasa as well.
Safaris
Wildlife
Kipalo and Mbulia Conservation were founded at the same time - being one and the same as the lodge pays for the running of the conservation. The conservancy is a vital dry-season dispersal area for over 700 elephant and 200 buffalo, which was essentially the reason for its creation as African wildlife is becoming increasingly threatened. Since opening, sightings of wildlife in the conservation area are becoming much more frequent - from the big cats such as lion and leopard, elephant, buffalo and most excitingly a pack of endangered African Wild Dog.
